Abstract:
Performance of phosphorus removal of active aluminum oxide (γ-Al2O3) modified by Al2(SO4)3 and Na2SO4 was studied by static adsorption experiment in order to develop a more effective method of trace phosphorus removal in water. Influences of adsorbent dosage, pH value and water temperature on phosphorus removal were observed, and removal effects of different phosphorus forms in simulated water samples using γ-Al2O3 before and after modified were investigated. Results show that phosphorus removal effects of γ-Al2O3 modified by Al2(SO4)3 and Na2SO4 are improved remarkably. Phosphorus removal rates increased with 18.53 and 14.34 percentage points separately. Phosphorus removal efficiency is clearly improved with increasing dosage of modified γ-Al2O3 in a certain dosage range. Phosphorus adsorption action of modified γ-Al2O3 mainly relies on physical adsorption. Phosphorus removal effects decrease with the increases of temperature and pH value. The γ-Al2O3 modified by Al2(SO4)2 displays better effects on phosphorus removal and better adaptability on water quality. The effects of adsorption phosphorus removal are influenced greatly by turbid matters in water. Therefore, the γ-Al2O3 adapts better to advanced phosphorus removal of filtered water.
