Abstract:
The deformity intersection that consists of five or more approaches is often difficult to optimize as its conflict points include more than just the crossing. This paper introduces a method that reduces conflict points through improving channelization and signal timing based on existing traffic volume and organization. In addition, based on the method above, this paper introduces a complete optimized case. In the case, the authors applied VISSIM to build a simulation model and output evaluation index. The result indicates that this optimized program has a clear improvement on traveling times, queue length, and delays as compared to the current program. In conclusion, the optimized methods are acceptable and, therefore, can be applied to other optimized programs of deformity intersections. © 2014 American Society of Civil Engineers.
