Abstract:
The effect of the support level of intra-aorta pump on the aorta was studied. A cardiovascular-pump system model were designed using the method of lumped parameter and elastic chamber theory. Subsequently, computer simulations based on the model were conducted. Results demonstrate that when the intra-aorta pump works in the mode of constant speed, the mean values of the aortic pressure and blood flow increase with increasing rotational speed of the pump; on the contrary, their pulsatility decreases significantly. When the pump speed is up to 7200 r/min, the pulsatility pressure and blood flow of the aortic approximates to 0. The low pulsatile value of aortic pressure and blood flow will generate an influence on the structure and function of aorta. Therefore, the constant speed control strategy is not adoptable for the intra-aorta pump in long-term support.
