To investigate the feasibility of a biological method for elimination of odorous gas from wastewater treatment plants, a biotrickling filter (BTF), biofilter, and bioscrubber were used to treat the odorous gas, which was collected from four tanks (sanitary sewage lifting tank, oxidation tank, accident tank, and adjusting tank) of a Sinopec chemical fiber wastewater treatment plant. The results show that when the treatment capacity increased from 0.1 m3·h-1 to 0.2 m3·h-1, the corresponding empty bed residence time (EBRT) was cut from 172 s to 86 s. The BTF's removal efficiencies of methyl alcohol, ethyl alcohol, cyclohexane, and m-xylene increased to 96.80%, 100.00%, 92.15%, and 99.68%, respectively. Furthermore, the three biological reactors showed good adaptability to air temperature changes, but the BTF's pressure drop remained undetected. Hence, the odorous gas from this chemical fiber wastewater treatment plant was efficiently eliminated by BTF technology. © 2017, Science Press. All right reserved.
