Abstract:

Considering the influence of children's characteristic and the motivational needs on travel behavior of family holiday activities, the patterns of parent-child travels were analyzed. The travel motivations were classified using the factor analysis method. A structural equation model was established to analyze the relations between children's character and the motivation, content and behavior of travels. The path analysis method was applied to analyze how the children's character influences the family's choice for holiday activities as well. The experimental results indicate that the age and number of children are the most significant impact factors on the content and behavior of family activities. As the children grow up, family travels should pay more attention to the broadening of children's horizons and the improvement of children's knowledge and skills. The frequency of one-day events would be reduced gradually, while the proportion of public transit increase, as well as travel distance and the duration of stay in the destination. Meanwhile, the increase of children's number will result in the reduction of distance and duration of stay for family holiday travels. The results reveal the traffic behavior patterns of parent-child holiday travel, which can provide references for the formulation and refinement of traffic demand management policies in the future. © 2017, Wuhan University of Technology.
