Abstract:
Cartilage tissue engineering plays an important role in the repair of cartilage injuries. Seed cells are implanted in the scaffold material and differentiate into cartilage cells under the induction of cytokines, thus achieving the cartilage repair. Scaffold materials occupy an important position as one of the three cores of cartilage tissue engineering materials, including natural polymer materials, synthetic polymer materials and composite materials. Every material has its own unique physical and chemical properties. It is of utmost importance in cartilage tissue engineering to choose proper scaffold material according to its unique properties. This article will give a brief review on the latest studies on scaffold materials of cartilage tissue engineering. It gives a brief summary on the types of available materials and the characteristics of each type. It will also give a prediction on the future developments of materials used in cartilage tissue engineering.
