The mutual authentication scheme between the host and the portable storage device based on secure chip

With the development of information technology and storage technology, the data security problem of portable storage is becoming increasingly prominent and pressing. Nowadays, measures protecting portable devices are not as strong as that it needed, and effective authentication ability is insufficient. Portable storage devices are ubiquitous in our daily lives and used frequently, of which data security is becoming increasingly important. To dealing with it, secure chip is involved, to generate keys and create ID info, and then establish the mutual authentication scheme between the portable storage device and the host. Both the parties generates the identification key pairs and encryption key pairs respectively, and then exchange the public key of encryption keys and ID info, after which the initial trusted relationship is established. Before data exchanging between the trusted portable device and the host, identification must be checked mutually that through the verifications of identification keys, by the means of request-response messages, which is under the protection of encryption key pairs. After the scheme is proposed, the mutual authentication scheme is analyzed using BAN logic. It indicates that the mutual authentication scheme can achieve the expectative authentication goals, and help to improve the data security of portable storage devices. The contributions of this paper can be summarized as, secure chip is embedded into portable storage device, and an effective mutual authentication scheme based on it is proposed and proved to have achieved the secure goals. With the help of the scheme, data security of portable storage devices have been enhanced.
