Translated Title
On the Effects of Chinese Characters on Ancient Japanese Civilization
Translated Abstract
This paper discusses the effects of Chinese characters on Japan. On this issue, existing studies have generally placed greatest emphasis on the cultural aspects of influence. However, I believe that the fundamental reason that Chinese characters were brought to and popularized in Japan is found in political needs, rather than cultural needs. In the process of developing ancient Japanese civilization, Chinese characters had a profound impact on the ancient state configuration, and the establishment and development of land systems, thus contributing to the rapid development of Japanese civilization, which represents the biggest benefit of Chinese characters to Japanese. The purpose of this paper is to provide a more objective and comprehensive understanding of the implication of Chinese culture on Japanese society by discussing the effects of Chinese characters on Japanese civilization.
