Aim at the complexity of seismic hazard evaluation, the hierarchical index system of regional seismic hazard evaluation is constructed on the basis of analysis of seismic hazard factors. The comprehensive evaluation method of seismic hazard is proposed based on the spatial analysis technology of GIS and catastrophe processing method. Firstly, the vector data is obtained using GIS, then graphic and attribute databases are built. The basic indices of seismic hazard evaluation are assigned value extracting information from the databases. Secondly, according to the characteristics of index system, normalized formulas for catastrophe model are selected, and mutation function values of regional seismic hazard are calculated recursively layer by layer. And then the regional hazardous level is determined. Finally, the evaluating results are introduced into GIS and the regional seismic hazard evaluation map is drawn out using the spatial analysis technology and visualization function of GIS. The regional seismic hazard is comprehensively evaluated Case calculation shows that the evaluating results are basically consistence with the practical situation, which verifies the feasibility and rationality of the model. The comprehensively evaluating results can provide theoretical basis for regional seismic prevention plan.
