Experimental study On biosorption of acid red B by aerobic granular sludge

The paper takes as its aim the investigation and introduction to our studies aB to the capability of aerobic granular sludge(AGS)as a biosorbent for removing axo dye acid red B(ARB)from the aquarium solution with the effects of pH value,biosorbent dosage,initial ARB concentration aod NaCl concentration on the biosorption being analyzed.Actually,there exists a biosorption equi-librium capacity phteau with its pH standing between 1 and 2,and the biosorption equilibrium capacity gradually down-dmpping from 15.99 mg/g to 3.67 mg/g with the increase of pH value from 2.5 to 13.For example,the ARB can be expected to reach its biosorption equilibrium in 30 rain with a pH value of 1.1.5 and 2 whereas it would take about 6 h to reach the equilibrium with the increase of pH value from 2.5 to 9 and it would take 10 h at a pH value of 11 and 13.Thus.it can be seen that the biosorption process is highly pH-dependentwith the acidic pH(1.0-2.0)being favorable.On the other hand,the biosorption capacity was found rising with the in-crease of the initial dye concentration,but lowering with the increase of the biosorbent dosage and NaCl concentration.Therefore.it would make us infer the likely mechanism of ABB biosorption by AGS from our analysis of mR within the range of 400-4 000 cm~(-1).Besides.the bend intensity would be found obviously slackened at 1 647 cm~(-1)(amide Ⅰ),1 549 cm~(-1)(amide Ⅱ)and 1272 cm~(-1)(amide Ⅲ)afterthe ARB biosorption.In addition,when the AGS was loaded with ARB,the band intensity would also be found decreased at 3 436 cm-1,2 928 cm~(-1)(1 457 cm~(-1)),1 402 cm~(-1)and 1082 cm~(-1) all,which implies that O-H and N-H of the polymeric compounds and amine,the CH_2 group of lipids,the C=O of earboxylate and the C-O of olysaceharides would all be found involved in the ARB biosorption.The FTIR analysis reveals the main chemical functional groupsfor biosorption of ARB to AGS would be amine,carboxyl,hydroxyl and either.The above results show that AGS could be employed as a low-cost and alternative biosorbent in the sewage treatmentfor removingthe anionic azo dye ARB.
