Characterization of cemented carbides with highly oriented WC grains
Translated Abstract
WC-Co cemented carbides with highly oriented WC grains and specific mechanical properties were prepared by a novel method based on the in situ reduction and carbonization reactions and optimizing the processing parameters. The characteristics of phase constitution and WC plane distribution of the prepared bulk material were characterized by XRD and electronic back scattered diffraction (EBSD) systematically. Moreover, the mechanical properties were tested on different cross-sections.The results show that the microstructure has obviously higher fraction of the WC basal plane (0001) on the cross-section which is perpendicular to the pressing direction of the sintering powder, which reaches 31.7%.However,on the cross-section parallel to the sintering pressure direction, the fraction of the prism plane (10-10) is as high as 40.8%.Correspondingly, the hardness, elastic modulus and wear resistance are greatly increased on the cross-section with high fraction of WC basal plane. In addition, the morphology of the plate-like WC grains was examined by SEM.
