Application of Local Characteristic-scale Decomposition in Gear Fault Diagnosis

The local characteristic-scale decomposition(LCD) is a newly self-adaptive signal decomposition method, can decompose any complicated signal into a number of intrinsic scale components(ISC) whose instantaneous frequencies own physical sense, so it is especially suitable for processing the multi-component amplitude-modulated and frequency-modulated signal.Firstly ,basic theories and ideas of LCD was described, and then the detail step of signal decomposition using LCD is given, finally, a simulation signal was analyzing by using LCD method and empirical mode decomposition (EMD) method, Through the comparison and analysis directly demonstrate the superiority of the LCD method..Finally, the LCD method applied to the actual gear fault ,aiming at the IMF applied the envelope analysis can identify gear fault frequencies effectively and demonstrating this method is feasible in gear fault diagnosis.
