In China, the method of indoor air sampling is according to GB/T 18883-2002. When sampling in a big room, a lot of samplers and materials must be used. And in indoor environment the samples using this method are often not so representational. Aiming at these problems, we have designed the automatic sampler. The automatic sampler is a robot which is based on the traditional sampler and able to move freely and steer clear of the object. In use of this kind of sampler, energy sources and materials will be saved greatly. The results of experiment show that in a room of 50-100m(2), 50% of the energy consumption has been saved in use of the automatic sampler. And it is 67% in a room which is more than 100m(2). When sampling in a room less than 50m(2), compared with the traditional sampler, 50% of the material and sampling tubes can be saved. When sampling in a room of 50-100m(2), 75% of the material and sampling tubes can be saved. And in a room of more than 100m(2), it is 83%.
