摘要:
Light-frame low-rise buildings are widely used among residences, factories and other infrastructures. However, many post-disaster surveys reported that low-rise buildings suffer serious damages during strong winds. The major damage mode is the loss of envelope components. It is necessary to carry out studies on wind-induced damage analysis of low-rise building envelope. An approach for wind-induced fragility analysis of low-rise building envelope was proposed based on a simplified 3-stage progressive damage process. In the approach, the opening condition were determined by identifying failure of window/door due to either windborne debris impact or wind pressures. Internal pressures for partially enclosed building were via the Bernoulli equation. Copula function was used to analyze the associated failures of roof components. A general procedure for fragility analysis was proposed based on Monte Carlo simulation. A wooden-frame residential building was used as an example. Furthermore, the effect of wind directionality was studied. Results show that components on windward wall often suffer higher risks and damage on building envelope may be underestimated if neglecting the effect of wind directionality. © 2021, Editorial Office of Journal of Building Structures.
