With improvement of industrial technology and people's living standard, the refrigeration plants of evaporation temperatures in the range of -40degreesC to -80degreesC are increasingly used in many industry and commerce departments. The performances of binary cascade refrigeration system with R22/R23 and two-stage refrigeration system with R22 were comprehensively analyzed by the aid of the property program of real refrigerants and the characteristics of actual semi-hermetic reciprocating compressors. The results show that: when the evaporation temperature varies from -40degreesC to -53degreesC with constant condensation temperature of 40degreesC, two-stage refrigeration system is suitable to use in the range of -40degreesC to -53degreesC; when evaporation temperature varies from -53degreesC to -80degreesC with constant condensation temperature of 40degreesC, the refrigerating capacity and energy efficiency ratio (EER) of binary cascade system are higher than those of two-stage system, thus the cascade system is suitable to the use in the temperature range of -53degreesC to -80degreesC.
