A mathematical model is developed to predict the volatile organic compound (VOC) emission rate from building materials. The mass diffusion and convection process in the boundary layer between material surface and air flow are considered in this model. The predictions made by model are validated by the experimental results. The results indicate that there is a good agreement between the model predictions and experimental results. The influences of air flow velocity, temperature on VOC emission rate are discussed. The result of study show that VOC emission rate would increase with the increase of air velocity and also increase in the chamber with higher air temperature during the initial period of emission process.
