The multiple sources of recycled coarse aggregates and the complicated service condition of the waste concrete structures will induce obvious variability and time-dependent properties of recycled aggregate concrete (RAC). To ensure the safety and reliability of RAC components, this paper takes the research achievements about the time-dependent stress-strain curve, carbonation behavior and cover cracking of RAC into account. Meanwhile, based on the analysis of the time-dependent reliability of RAC components, it is found that the compressive strength of RAC, reinforcement ratio, thickness of concrete cover, carbonation coefficient and corrosion rate of reinforcement have significant influence on the reliability, and then the design methods of ensuring the time-dependent reliability level of RAC components are proposed. Under the condition that the RAC has the same standard value of compressive strength as that of the normal aggregate concrete, the design method of increasing the longitudinal reinforcement/stirrup ratio of RAC components is proposed with the determined partial safety factor of RAC. Simultaneously, the formulas for calculating the bearing capacity of RAC components considering the time-dependent reliability are recommended, which can be used for the design of RAC structures. © 2020, Editorial Office of Journal of Building Structures.
