We demonstrated high power all-fiber 2 similar to 3 mu m supercontinuum (SC) generation from a short piece of germaniadoped fiber (GDF) pumped by a thulium-doped fiber amplifier (TDFA). As 39 W 2 mu m picosecond pulse launched into GDF, a mid-infrared SC laser with maximum average power of 33.6 W and broadband spectrum of 1.8 similar to 3.0 mu m was achieved, which was the record SC power in 2 similar to 3 mu m region based on GDF to date, to the best of the authors' knowledge. The spectral broadening mechanism of the high-power SC generation were theoretical investigated by solving the generalized nonlinear Schrodinger equation (GNLSE).
