Weld connections have been widely used in fabrication and assembly of stainless steel structures. However, few experimental studies at home and abroad have been concentrated on the loading capacity of stainless steel welded connections. In order to investigate the loading capacity of the fillet weld connections of Chinese S22053-grade duplex stainless steel members, tensile tests were conducted on six specimens with transverse fillet weld connections and five specimens with longitudinal fillet weld connections. The ultimate load-bearing capacity and the ultimate strength of the welded connections were tested, and the deformation development with the load increment was measured as well. The test results indicate that the failure section angle is not 45° but an average of around 29°. The ultimate strength is 973MPa and the average deformation of welds is 1.139mm for transverse fillet welding joint specimens. With an average of around 46°, the failure section angle is closed to 45° for longitudinal fillet welding joint specimens, For this kind of members, the ultimate strength is 637MPa and the average deformation of welds is 1.792mm. The ultimate strength of transverse fillet welded connections is 1.53 times that of longitudinal fillet welded connections. © 2016, Editorial Office of China Civil Engineering Journal.
