A wave rotor is a pressure exchanger, which utilizes direct pressure transfer between fluids by pressure waves. It has been applied on a gas turbine or internal combustion engine. This paper investigates the performance of a through-flow (TF) wave rotor based on a test rig. The test rig includes a Comprex CX93 rotor together with redesigned casings. The experiment is completed based on different operating conditions such as varied speed, temperature, and pressure. Results show that the higher pressure and temperature of the inlet of the wave rotor causes better performance, the optimization rotational speed of the TF wave rotor is about 13000 r/min. The designed TF wave rotor structure is reasonable and it produces high-pressure compressed air. The maximum compression pressure ratio is up to 2.0.
