Urban　traffic　information　service　plays　an　important　role　in　the　application　of　Intelligent　Transportation　System.　Conventional　passive　modes　of　traffic　information　service　could　not　meet　the　public　demand　for　the　information　of　diverse　and　inconstant　traffic　conditions.　Based　on　the　analysis　of　the　disadvantages　of　current　traffic　information　services,　this　paper　clarifies　the　necessity　of　the　combination　of　active　database　and　traffic　information　services.　The　design　and　framework　of　traffic　information　service　based　on　active　database　are　proposed.　Finally,　the　testing　of　experimental　system　proves　the　feasibility　and　efficiency　of　urban　traffic　information　services　on　the　basis　of　active　database.
