Abstract:

It is necessary to research the spectra of Ho3+:ZnWO4 which is a kind of potential excellent laser crystal. The Ho3+:ZnWO4 crystals were grown by the technique of Czochralski and its absorption and fluorescence spectra were determined. The phenomenological intensity parameters of Ho3+ in ZnWO4 crystals: Ω2=3.757 × 10-20 cm2, Ω4=2.089 × 10-20 cm2, Ω6=4.659 × 10-20 cm2 were obtained with absorption and fluorescence spectra according to the theory of Judd-Ofelt. Based on these Ωλ values, the radioactive lifetime (17.08 ms), and integrated emission cross section (0.667 × 10-18 cm2) of the transition: 5I7 &rarr 5I8, and the integrated emission cross section (1.200 × 10-18 cm2), and fluorescence branching ratio (0.3525) of the transition: 5S2 &rarr 5I7 were calculated out. From these, the transitions of 5I7 &rarr 5I8 and 5S2 &rarr 5I7 were pointed out as the laser channels.
