Hypertension and cardiovascular pathology are the most important factors causing cardiovascular diseases. A kind of monitoring equipment for cardiovascular function to evaluate cardiovascular pathology is urgently needed which can calculate blood pressure and report pulse wave. The piezoelectric signal collected from air sac on wrist was processed into two kinds of signals including pressure of air sac signal and pulse wave signal, which were transferred by analog-to-digital converter into microcontroller unit (MCU). The MCU can make and break operation of the pump and air valve to calculate the pressure in air sac and amplitude of the pulse wave peak. Finally, the MCU can calculate mean arterial pressure and collect radial artery pulse wave. Therefore, the device can collect pulse wave on the constant air sac pressure which is mean arterial pressure. This device can provide a way to measure pulse wave automatically while the blood pressure is measured. © 2015 Taylor & Francis Group, London.
