Intersections are critical components of an urban transportation network, and the control types of the intersections have an important influence on the traffic flow. Rural intersections in China face to the safety problems of mixed traffic flows. This paper presents equations for selecting intersections control types among the options of two-way stop sign, all-way stop sign, signal, and roundabout. Particularly, traffic conflict numbers is chosen as the performance index for type selection. 24000 combinations of different levels of demand are designed by using VISSIM Traffic simulation software, four scenarios with 5%, 10%, 15%, and 20% of the different volumes are assigned to make left turns, five scenarios with 10vph, 20vph, 30vph, 40vph and 50vph volumes are assigned to pedestrian and bicycles (P&B) flow, six scenarios with percentile from 5% to 30% of the different volumes are assigned to heavy-vehicles. Also there are five scenarios of major road volume ranging from 50vph to 250vph and two scenarios of minor road with 10vph and 20vph. Each test is made respectively with two-way stop sign, all-way stop sign, signalized intersection and roundabout. The new set of equations is given as the base of the rural intersection control type choice and comprehensive benefits for intersection analysis.
