With an increasing emphasis on energy efficiency and reliability, heating network with multiple Loops and multiple sources are becoming more widely considered among the DHS (District heating system). Previously reported hydraulic methods of heating network have the deficiencies that the water-supply network and return network is symmetrical and the flow of the heating users and the heat source must be given, or the valves in the network are all assumed at the maximum opening. Therefore, this study applies MKP modeling techniques to identify hydraulic condition of a complex heating network with three heat sources, three loops, 530 nodes, 631 pipe sections and 102 fundamental circuits. The fundamental circuit matrix of the spatial network and the graph theory also applied to evaluate and interpret the mathematical model results. The calculative process of the method is provided. The flow direction of water-supply network under normal condition and the operation conditions of three circulation pumps are identified. It may represent useful tools for the study of hydraulic characteristic of complex heating network with multi-heat sources and multi-loops. © (2012) Trans Tech Publications.
