With economic development, we are facing a motorized, urbanized and marketized challenge for the sustainable development of urban transportation. For the future development of new city transit in Beijing, this paper implements a 'people-oriented, comprehensive, coordinated and sustainable,' scientific development concept, and also puts forth a multi-level public transit network fuzzy evaluation to meet the requirement of sustainable development. TRANSCAD software is used to build a demand forecasting model of new city public transit network in the future. Based on the scientific development concept, this paper establishes a comprehensive evaluation index system, which includes an accessibility index, a comfort index, a network performance index and a coordination index. Every index is given a different weight. Finally, it builds a multi-level public transit sustainable fuzzy evaluation combined with traffic simulation software TRANSCAD, and also gives a specific analysis example. It is of great significance for overall sustainable development of urban transport, and for social and economic progress. © 2011 ASCE.
