As it is very difficult to accurately get the whole dynamic parameters and model information of large-scale structural damage identification, dimension and step damage identification method is established to directly take vibration parameters as damage indexes. This method doesn't need to get complete structure dynamic parameters. Damage identification method of treating the second derivative of transverse vibration acceleration and the second derivative of axial vibration mode as damage indexes is put forward separately according to the vibration character of the main components in frame structure. The first step of high rise frame structure identification is to carry out modal parameters identification of layer to determine the damaged layer, then axial vibration or acceleration signal is used to identify damaged component and location according to the transverse vibration, A number of damaged components indicate that the frame structure can be divided into substructures to identify damage location step by step, followed by the identification of the damaged components. Simulation of a three-span 12-layer R.C frame structure damage identification shows the feasibility and accuracy of transverse vibration, axial vibration damage index and the proposed dimension and step damage identification. © 2011 ASCE.
