As we all knows reducing the manufacturing time is the trend of precision manufacturing, and the precision of a work-piece is very important for manufacturing industry. High-speed cutting is becoming more widely used and the high-speed spindle is a very important element, whose precision may affect the overall performance of high-speed cutting. Firstly, this paper introduces the two-point method origin from three-point method for high-speed spindle rotation error motion measurement, and ANSI/ASME B5.54 which is the testing and evaluation standard for machine tools. Then on these basis, structure of the spindle dynamic measurement system is introduced and applied in details: The system consists of a displacement measurement unit with accuracy up to 0.5m, within 600,000 rpm for various spindles, the sampling clock modules, data acquisition cards, a computer and data processing software. The analysis of the experiments shows that it is feasible and effective to use the proposed methods, does not need any reference and it has high engineering value and it is easy to set up. © 2011 IEEE.
