Abstract:
Zhejiang has a complicated topography. Mountains and hilly lands account for 60.0 percent of the total land area. Although highway in mountainous areas in Zhejiang is low-volume, the level of economic development is high. Thus the traffic demand is high. Therefore, the department of communication of Zhejiang Province makes a special research on technological index of the high-class highway in Zhejiang mountainous areas. The research analyzed the principle of index of highway design. While meeting the precondition of ensuring the driving safe and comfortableness, the optimal land utilization is to make socioeconomic performance as effective as possible. The project team plans to advance the appropriate index of Zhejiang mountainous area low-volume high-class highway. The research conducted an experiment about driver workload with twelve subjects in Guibi Highway that has low-level technical index. The experiment uses driver workload index (Heart Rate Variability, HRV) to evaluate the adaptability of driving. The results proved the feasibility of the technical index. © 2010 ASCE.
