Manganese-oxidizing microorganisms are able to oxidize soluble Mn 2+ into insoluble Mn oxides, so they are very useful in treatment of Mn-contaminated water. A strain bacteria Mn-103 was isolated, purified from manganese removal bio-filter treated, and it had been identified to belong to Bacillus ce-1 by the MIDI Sherlock bacteria identification system. The strain bacteria has the manganese-oxidizing ability tested by the LBB method, and it has high Mn2+ resistance, the Mn2+ concentration in the culture medium that less than 30mmol/L has no inhibitory effect for Mn-103. Study on the growth character, the results showed that Mn-103 reached period of logarithm increasing after inoculation 6h, then it entered stabilization period after inoculation 36h, it still in the stabilization period until 60h, and it can induce the pH of surrounding environment increased. This bacterium also has strong Mn2+ biological removal ability, after inoculation 60h, the concentration of MnO2 can reach to 12 mg/L, and the total Mn 2+ biological removal amount can reach about 20mg/L in the culture medium that the original total Mn2+ concentration is about 27mg/L. ©2010 IEEE.
