Based on the suspend-dome structure of Badminton Arena for 2008 Olympic Games, some analyses about suspend-dome and single layer shell including force, deformation, eigenvalue buckling and nonlinear buckling are conducted respectively, the excellent properties of the suspend-dome are showed. The characteristic of Lamella's type, rib-loop type, rib-loop tilted bar type suspend-dome are studied, the results indicate that Lamella's shell type suspend-dome is the most effective type. The influence of the size of the shell lattice, the rise-span ratio, the height of strut, the initial geometrical defect and the prestressing value of cable are analyzed, and some engineering valuable conclusions are drawn for practical design. Programs with the axis force and the joint displacement of the upper dome as object functions are developed respectively, the effective method of the prestressing value is developed. The optimum methods which this paper presented are adopted in the design of Badminton Arena for 2008 Olympic Games, and an optimal Suspend-dome is got with span of 93m, rise of 9.3m and rise-span ratio 1/10, the largest Suspend-dome structure in the world.
