摘要:
The wastewater reclamation reverse osmosis (RO) system has been widely used, but hindered by the fouling of RO membrane. Adding non-oxidizing biocides is a common method to control biological fouling of RO membranes. Although biocides can inhibit bacterial growth, it's not clear how non-oxidizing biocides take effect on the secretion of microorganism. Our previous study has found that the extracellular polymeric substance (EPS) of bacteria is an important factor in the biofouling of RO membranes, rather than the bacteria. Therefore, in this study we analyzed the effect of methylisothiazolone (MIT, a kind of typical non-oxidizing biocide) on the growth, community structure and secretion characteristics of microorganism in the effluent of MBR, which was used for wastewater reclamation with RO. Results show that with the increase of MIT concentration, the lag phase in microbial growth prolonged significantly, but the biomass concentration in the stable phase increased, which means MIT could not effectively control the long term growth of microorganisms. With the increase of MIT concentration, the relative abundance of Paenarthrobacter increased significantly, and the EPS concentration also increased, which may aggravate the fouling of RO membrane. Therefore, the addition of MIT is detrimental to the control of RO fouling. © 2019, Science Press. All right reserved.
