Changes to blade vibrational modes caused by damage have been calculated using the Rayleigh-Ritz method. The results are used to evaluate the potential of condition monitoring techniques based on changes in flapwise natural frequencies. In particular, the technique developed is applied to the 17m LM glass fibre reinforced polyester (GFRP) blade for which structural data and mode frequencies are available.
