RE-tungsten electrodes of W-La2O3-Y2O3 , W-La2O3-CeO2 and W-Y2O3-CeO2, each of which was activated with two combined additions of rare earth metal oxides, are prepared by means of powder metallurgy and press processing. Their welding arc's characteristics, including arc starting, arc static characteristics and electrodes' consumption, were studied with DCSP TIG welding in which the tungsten electrode is negative, and were compared with that of tungsten electrodes of W-La2O3, W-CeO2, W-Y2O3 and W-ThO2. The results suggest that the welding arc's properties of RE-tungsten electrodes combined with two additions of rare earth metal oxides are superior to that of W-La2O3, W-CeO2, W-Y2O3 and W-ThO2 electrodes.
