Abstract:

Thin walled tube, a main energy absorption component, is widely used in collision design of different vehicles, LSDYNA is applied to simulate the impact of regular polygon thin walled tube with different cross section, and then the Fibonacci search is carried out to obtain a maximum solution of energy absorption about the thin walled tube. It is investigated that regular hendecagon section is the best solution to absorb the most energy under the same compression quantity. Therefore, thin walled tube with regular hendecagon section is suggested to be used in collision impact design as energy absorption components.
