Achieving high selectivity and activity of CO2 electroreduction to formate by in-situ synthesis of single atom Pb doped Cu catalysts SCIE

Exploring highly selective and stable electrocatalysts is of great significance for the electrochemical conversion of CO2 into fuel. Herein, a three-dimensional (3D) nanostructure catalyst was developed by doping Pb single-atom (PbSA) in-situ on carbon paper (PbSA100-Cu/CP) through a low-energy and economical method. The designed catalyst exhibited abundant active sites and was beneficial to CO2 adsorption, activation, and subsequent conversion to fuel. Interestingly, PbSA100-Cu/CP showed a prominent Faraday efficiency (FE) of 97 % at -0.9 V versus reversible hydrogen electrode (vs. RHE) and a high partial current density of 27.9 mA & sdot;cm- 2 for formate. Also, the catalyst remained significantly stable for 60 h during the durability test. The reaction mechanism was investigated by density functional theory (DFT), demonstrating that the doping PbSA induced the electrons redistribution, promoted the formate generation, reduced the rate-determining step (RDS) energy barrier, and inhibited the hydrogen evolution reaction. The study aims to provide a new strategy for developing of singleatom catalysts with high selectivity and stability, which will help reduce environmental pressure and alleviate energy problems.

Comb polymer with ionic side chains as a novel dispersant for cement slurries: Synthesis, characterization and working mechanism SCIE

A novel dispersant with ionic side chains (ISC-PCE) for cement slurries was elaborately designed and prepared by a simple two-step method and its molecular structure was proved. The performance test results showed that the cement paste containing ISC-PCE exhibited stronger fluidity retention (about 79.6 % after 3 h), longer free settling time (more than 3 h) and fewer flocculating structures, which presented significant dispersing stability. Furthermore, the working mechanism of ISC-PCE to cement particles was also probed via molecular conformation, adsorption, complexation ability, zeta potential and adsorbed layer measurements. It is interesting that the introduction of ionic side chains into conventional dispersantpolycarboxylate superplasticizer (PCE) molecules can achieve gentle and continuous adsorption and increase the adsorbed layer thickness (increased by 103.1 % compared to conventional PCE). The aim of this study is to offer a promising pathway to synthesize a novel PCE endowing outstanding workability stability and great rheological improvements to cement pastes by innovative molecular design. This PCE with ionic side chains has enormous promises as an effective substitute to conventional PCE with nonionic side chains, particularly in the cement paste systems with strict requirements on slump retention. 本发明涉及用于电催化还原CO2的催化剂的原位制备方法。通过在导电衬底上原位制备单原子掺杂的Cu2O纳米结构,再进一步对其进行多氨聚合物修饰,得到用于电催化还原CO2的催化剂。本发明制备的催化剂为尖锐的松针状形貌,具有较大的电化学活性面积,用于催化还原CO2时可维持电解质在催化剂附近局部较高的CO2浓度并促进在电极表面的富集,提高电流密度,此外,金属单原子可提高CO2还原为甲酸的选择性,多氨聚合物修饰可提高催化剂的疏水性并捕集更多CO2参与反应,进一步提高催化剂的法拉第效率。该制备方法设计在不同衬底上原位生长,解决了催化剂脱落等难题,并可大幅改善铜基催化剂对CO2还原产物的选择性和转化效率。

In the synthesis of functional polycarboxylate superplasticizers (PCEs), ester monomer was usually used as small monomer or macromonomer. However, there were few studies on the co-introduction of small ester monomer and ester macromonomer into one PCE molecule and its effects. In this study, it was found an interesting behavior of competitive hydrolysis between these two ester monomers in diester PCE, which performed higher fluidity of cement paste, greater adsorption amount and shorter prolongation of the induction period of cement hydration due to the competitive hydrolysis. Furthermore, the kinetics of hydrolysis and adsorption of the diester PCE were probed, and the rate order was: ester macromonomer < small ester monomer < diester monomers. This study aims to innovatively reveal the special behavior and mechanism of competitive hydrolysis of PCE using diester monomers in cement-based materials and to provide a theoretical basis for enriching molecular design and innovative application of functional PCEs.

Chloride transportation and electrochemical behavior of concrete containing corrosion-inhibiting admixture and its inhibition mechanism under compound salt and drying-wetting cycles SCIE

The purpose of this study is to provide an ecological corrosion-inhibiting admixture (CIA) for retarding the degradation of reinforced concrete under compound salt attack and drying-wetting cycles. The effects of CIA on the mechanical behavior, chloride transportation, and electro-chemical behavior of concrete under compound salt and drying-wetting cycles were investigated. The pore contents with different sizes in concrete and the micro-morphology of rebars were analyzed by the bubble spacing coefficient analyzer and the scanning electron microscopy (SEM), respectively. The findings showed that the addition of CIA retarded the deterioration of concrete under compound salt and drying-wetting cycles. After exposure for 150 d, the weight loss rate and average free chloride concentration of concrete containing 5 % CIA decreased by 74.14 % and 51.53 % respectively, and the compressive strength was 1.49 times that of concrete without CIA. Chloride transportation was primarily dominated by diffusion and convection. Additionally, CIA significantly reduced the content of larger pores, prevented the diffusion of chloride and sulfate into the interior concrete, and formed adsorption films through a combination of physical and chemical effects, thus improving the electrochemical performance of rebars. This study is of great significance to provide new perspectives and improvement measures for mitigating the deterio-ration of reinforced concrete under compound salts and drying-wetting cycles.

Formation of tannic acid-calcium polymeric network in pore solution: Characterization and kinetics SCIE

This study investigates the changes of tannic acid (TA) at varying concentrations in cement pore solution. Interestingly, TA spontaneously forms nanosheet tannic acid-calcium polymeric net-works (TA-Ca) by interacting with Ca2+. Spectral, thermal, ionic and organic carbon analyses determine the composition and structural characteristics of these networks and detail the formation mechanism. The networks are connected via hydrogen bonding, C-C coupling and complexation. Moreover, network composition, structure and formation are closely dependent on TA concentration. At low concentrations, crystalline coordination polymer networks form, following second-order kinetics (key factor: Ca2+ concentration). At high concentrations, amorphous C-C coupled polymer networks form, following first-order kinetics (key factor: catalytic oxidation of Ca2+). This study aims to elucidate the reaction and mechanism of TA in cement paste, providing a novel theoretical basis for applying renewable bio-admixtures in sustainable construction.

The purpose of this study is to provide multi-functional, green, low-carbon and environmentalfriendly corrosion-inhibiting admixtures (CIA) to alleviate the deterioration of reinforced concrete under the coupling effect of composite salt and freeze-thaw cycles (FTCs). The effects of different contents of CIA on the performance of C30 concrete, including mechanical behavior (mass loss rate (MLR), compressive strength loss rate (CSLR) and relative dynamic elastic modulus (RDEM)), chloride ion penetration of concrete, and the electrochemical performance of rebars in concrete, were investigated. Furthermore, the deterioration mechanism of reinforced concrete was probed in detail by evaluating the pore structure parameters of concrete and the microscopic morphology of concrete and rebars via low-field nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and scanning electron microscope (SEM), respectively. The results showed that the mechanical behavior of concrete with CIA was prominently superior to that of concrete without CIA, with MLR decreased by 51.13-78.60%, CSLR decreased by 40.11-84.93%, and RDEM increased by 29.89-56.27% after 100 FTCs. The average content of free chloride ion in the concrete containing CIA was decreased by 12.14-55.65% under 100 FTCs due to the addition of CIA reducing the transmission path and the percentage of much detrimental pores (decreased by 39.03-85.99% after 100 FTCs). The correlation between free chloride ion content and diffusion depth conformed to Fick's second law, showing that there was a linear positive correlation between chloride diffusion coefficient (D) and FTCs. In addition, the electrochemical performance of rebars in concrete with CIA was improved owing to the good protection of CIA to rebars. This study is of great significance for improving the durability of reinforced concrete in harsh environment.

Effect of complexation of alkanolamine in accelerators on the initial stage of cement hydration SCIE

In this study, diethanolamine (DEA) and triethanolamine (TEA) were used to prepare a series of liquid alkali-free accelerators to investigate the different effects of complexation of DEA and TEA in accelerators towards the initial stage of cement hydration. Two types of accelerators respectively containing DEA (dosages of 0, 6, 8, 10, 12%) and TEA (dosages of 0, 0.25, 0.5, 0.75, 1, 8%) were prepared, and after addition, the setting time of cement pastes and compressive strength of mortars were tested. The result showed that the optimum dosage of DEA and TEA in accelerators was 8% and 0.25% respectively, and the early-strength effect of TEA was stronger than that of DEA. The mechanisms of DEA and TEA in accelerators were further revealed in terms of complexation ca-pacity, concentration of Ca2+, and hydration products and microstructure morphology of cement pastes. DEA and TEA complexed with Al3+ in accelerators and promoted the formation of ettringite (AFt) in cement pastes, and the complexation capacity of TEA to Al3+ was stronger than that of DEA, causing that high dosage of TEA in accelerator promoted the formation of AFt more than DEA and covered at the surfaces of C(3)A and C3S, which inhibited the hydration. DEA in accelerator could promote the hydration of C3S in the initial stage due to the transformation of complex DEA-Al to DEA-Ca. This study aims to interpret the different influences of complexation effects of DEA and TEA in accelerators on the properties of cement-based materials and their working mechanisms.

Reducing or eliminating cracks caused by shrinkage of cementitious materials remains a daunting challenge for construction engineers. Drying shrinkage and autogenous shrinkage are the main shrinkage types in the service process of cement-based materials, which have a great impact on engineering applications. If cracks in concrete generate by drying or autogenous shrinkage, the mechanical properties, water resistance and durability of concrete will be also affected. It is an effective method to use chemical admixtures to inhibit the shrinkage of cement-based materials. Polycarboxylate plasticizer (PCE) is an important chemical admixture in cement-based materials and is widely used in practical engineering. It can bring great value by reducing the shrinkage effect through molecular design. Through our innovative design, a series of shrinkage-reducing polycarboxylate superplasticizers (SRPs) were synthesized, their molecular structures were confirmed by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and their molecular properties were determined by gel permeation chromatography (GPC). Furthermore, the shrinkage performances at different ages of the mortars containing the synthesized SRPs with different structures were systematically evaluated. The results showed that compared with the blank sample, the dry shrinkage rate and free shrinkage rate of the mortars containing SRP decreased by over 20% and 15%, respectively. Additionally, the shrinkage rates of the mortars containing SRP were significantly lower than that of the mortar containing conventional PCE, and moreover, the water-reducing performance was improved compared to conventional PCE. Based on the experimental results of surface tension and evaporation rate of different SRP solutions, the mechanism of the shrinkage-reducing effect was probed, as expected to provide guidance for the design and development of new shrinkage-reducing admixtures.
