Frequent fluctuations of CNG engine operating conditions make the waste heat source have uncertain, nonlinear, and strong coupling characteristics. These characteristics are not conducive to the efficient recovery of the DORC system. The systematic evaluation of the CNG engine waste heat source and the comprehensive performance of the DORC system is conducive to the efficient use of waste heat. Based on the theory of internal combustion (IC) engine thermal balance, this paper analyzes the dynamic characteristics of compressed natural gas (CNG) engine waste heat energy under full operating conditions. Then, based on the operating characteristics of the dual loop organic Rankine cycle (DORC) system, thermodynamic models, heat transfer models, and economic models are constructed. The dynamic response characteristics analysis and energy, exergy, and economic (3E) evaluation of the DORC system under full operating conditions are carried out. The results show that the maximum values of net power output, heat exchange area, and the minimum values of EPC (electricity production cost) and PBT (payback time) are all obtained under rated condition, which are 174.03 kW, 25.86 kW, 37.54 kW, 24.76 m(2), 0.15 $/kW & BULL;h and 3.46 years. Therefore, the rated condition is a relatively ideal design operating point for the DORC system. The research in this paper not only provides a reliable reference for the comprehensive analysis and evaluation of the performance of the DORC system, but also provides useful guidance for the selection of appropriate DORC system design operating points.

Compressed air vehicle is characterized by low cost, easy operation, and zero pollution. In this study, a compressed air vehicle test table is built based on pneumatic motor (PM). Influences of key parameters, such as regulator valve pressure, rotation speed, and torque on exhaust pressure, intake pressure, expansion ratio, volume flow rate, power output and compressed air consumption rate of PM are discussed. Universal characteristics curve is an important reference to analyze the performance of PM. Hence, universal characteristics of PM is analyzed. Finally, relative error, error bar and sensitivity analysis of the experimental are discussed. Experimental results show that the high-power region of PM falls around regions with great volume flow rate, relatively high torque, and moderate rotation speed. For PM, the most economic region is expected to fall in the center of universal characteristics. Moderate torque and rotation speed are the relatively economic operation regions of PM. When the regulator valve pressure is 9 bar, the torque is 11 N.m, and the rotation speed is 880 r/min, the power output of PM reaches 1014.5 W.

The organic Rankine cycle (ORC) is a promising technology for medium-and-low temperature heat utilization. However, the mechanism of how system parameters affect output have been investigated very little in the experimental aspect. Experimental investigation on the impact of each system parameter on system performance requires decoupling these system parameters. In this work, a series of experiments are conducted on a 10 kW scale ORC experiment setup. Statistical analysis is performed to identify a key parameter subset based on an experimental database. 6 system parameters, including temperature (Te) and pressure (pe) at the evaporator outlet, temperature (Tc) and pressure (pc) at the condenser inlet, expander shaft efficiency (eta SSE), and working fluid pump efficiency (eta P) are obtained. Combined with the ORC net power output and thermal efficiency, an experimental database of system operation conditions is constructed. Subsequently, the principal component analysis (PCA) of ORC is conducted based on the experimental database. Prediction models are developed using multi-linear regression (MLR), back propagation artificial neural network (BP-ANN), and support vector regression (SVR). Finally, accounting for the prediction performance of models and system parameter intercorrelation behavior, the key parameter subset is determined with the exhaustive feature selection method. The results imply that the key parameter subset is (pe, eta P, pc, eta SSE). Further removing or including more system parameters would reduce the accuracy of prediction models. In addition, the MLR models are slightly less accurate than the more sophisticated BP-ANN and SVR models.

Phase and texture evolution of the hot-deformed Sm(Co,Fe,Cu,Zr)z magnet prepared by spark plasma sintering (SPS) have been investigated. The effects of hot deformation temperature and height reduction on the phase structure and magnetic properties of the magnet were studied. The results show that with 90% height reduction at 900 °C, the hot-deformed magnet with TbCu7 structure obtains an obvious c -axis texture. However, with increasing hot deformation temperature, some 1:7H phases decompose into 2:17R, 1:5H, and Zr-rich particle phases in the hot deformation process. The hot-deformed magnet with 85% height reduction possesses a remanence ( Mr ) of 6.9 kG, which is higher than that of the isotopic precursor. © 1965-2012 IEEE.

Study on the Control Strategy of Free Piston Expander-Linear Generator Used for Organic Rankine Cycle Waste Heat Recovery EI CSCD

This study presents a free piston expander-linear generator (FPE-LG) for engine waste heat recovery. The control strategies based on displacement (control strategy A) and valve timings (control strategy B) are proposed. The operation and output characteristics with different control strategies are conducted. The results show that control strategy has significant effect on the FPE-LG performance. When FPE-LG operates with control strategy A, the operation frequency is determined by the intake pressure, advanced exhaust duration, fixed position point and external load resistance, whereas it is only related with the intake/exhaust time and advanced exhaust duration (ta) for control strategy B. The external load resistance has slight influence on the stroke length for these two control strategies. For control strategy A, when advanced exhaust duration is more than 40 ms, the stroke length rises with the intake pressure, whereas it first rises and then reduces when advanced exhaust duration is less than 40 ms. There exist the optimal external load resistance and advanced exhaust duration to achieve the maximum power output with control strategy A, whereas the average power output reduces with the increasing advanced exhaust duration when using control strategy B. In order to overcome the limitations of geological conditions, a test bench of small-scale compressed air energy storage (CAES) system based on pneumatic motor (PM) is proposed in this paper. As a key component of CAES system, the PM serves as an expander with the advantages of small size, lightweight, low cost, and convenient operation. The effect of the rotation speed, regulated pressure, and current on the key performance parameters (power output, compressed air consumption rate, and energy efficiency) are tested through experiments. In addition to the resulting output performance of the PM and generator, the energy efficiency of the PM, generator, and CAES system is analyzed. Given that the exhaust air from the PM has a refrigeration potential, the cooling power, cooling efficiency, and combined cooling power efficiency are also examined to improve the comprehensive energy utilization efficiency of the CAES system. The power output and energy efficiency of the PM and generator increase but eventually decrease with the rise of current and rotation speed. Under the lab-scale conditions, the maximum power output of the PM and generator are 989.21 W and 862.35 W, respectively. The maximum efficiency of the PM and generator is 9.83% and 87.19%, and the cooling efficiency and combined cooling power efficiency of the CAES system are 11.77% and 17.25%.

The output characteristics of single screw expander has a direct and crucial influence on the performance of organic Rankine cycle (ORC) system. In this paper, a machine learning prediction model driven by experimental data is developed and applied to predict the power output of single screw expander. After screening different structural parameters of the model, genetic algorithm (GA) is used to optimize the initial weights and thresholds of the model, so as to further improve the generalization ability of the model. In addition, the generalization ability of the model is compared with that of the model not optimized by GA. Furthermore, the influence of operating parameters on the power output of single screw expander is analyzed by fitting algorithm in three-dimensional space. The optimization boundary value needed for prediction and optimization is determined by fitting algorithm in four-dimensional space. Finally, a prediction and optimization model is created by coupling the machine learning prediction model with GA, and the maximum power output and corresponding operating parameters of the single screw expander under full operating conditions are predicted and optimized. The results show that with the application of machine learning and GA, the maximum power output of single screw expander can be predicted and optimized precisely under full operating conditions. So as to directly guide the selection of relevant parameters in the process of theoretical analysis and experimental research. © 2020 Elsevier Ltd

In this study, a single-piston free-piston expander-linear generator test system for the power-electricity conversion is presented using compressed air as the working fluid. This study investigated the effect of intake time and intake pressure on the performance of the test system. Examples include the following: in-cylinder pressure, bias displacement, one-way time, indicated work, output electric energy, and work electricity conversion efficiency in a single cycle using the position-time control method with the intake position of 21and 45 mm. Result shows that: in the operational process of the test system, all values obtained when the piston runs from top dead center to bottom dead center are all different compared with those obtained when the piston runs from bottom dead center to top dead center. When the test system operates with low intake pressure and short intake time, the working chamber without a piston rod will over-expand. With the increase of intake time or intake pressure, the bias displacement, indicated work, and one-way output electric energy show an increasing trend. Moreover, the one-way time shows a decreasing trend and eventually tends to a fixed value, and the one-way work-electricity conversion efficiency initially increases and then decreases. In this paper, a free piston expander-linear generator (FPE-LG) test rig is established and the control strategy based on displacement is applied. The operation characteristic, output performance, and energy conversion efficiency of the FPE-LG are analyzed. The coefficient of equilibrium oscillation (C) is identified to evaluate the stability of the free piston assembly (FPA). Experimental results show that the FPA has best stability when fixed position point (FPP) is between 20 - 75 mm. The actual stroke and operation frequency increase with the intake pressure and load resistance. The variations of voltage and power output are in accordance with velocity. The average power output increases with intake pressure and FPP, but reduces with the advanced exhaust duration. The maximum average power output can be achieved when the load resistance is 20 Ω. The energy conversion efficiency first increases with intake pressure and then remains constant. The energy conversion efficiency reaches up to 17.5 % when intake pressure is 0.9 MPa, FPP is 40 - 55 mm, advanced exhaust duration is 0 ms, and load resistance is 20 Ω. The lower the coefficient of equilibrium oscillation is, the higher the average power output is. © 2020 Elsevier Ltd

Evolution of diverse Hall effects due to successive magnetic transitions has been observed in Mn2.5Fe0.6Sn0.9 by suitable chemical substitution of Fe in Mn3.1Sn0.9. This noncollinear antiferromagnetic alloy exhibits a Neel temperature of 325 K. Upon cooling from 325 K, a magnetic phase transition from noncollinear antiferromagnetism to ferromagnetism occurs at 168 K due to the tilting of magnetization towards c axis. Above this temperature, anomalous Hall resistivity ranged from 0.6 to 1.3 mu omega cm has been observed in noncollinear antiferromagnetic state. Below this temperature, a topological Hall effect (THE) starts to appear due to the non-vanishing scalar spin chirality arising from the noncoplanar spin structure. Further decreasing temperature to 132 K, another magnetic transition happens, resulting in the coexistence of ferromagnetism and antiferromagnetism, so that a Hall plateau with large hysteresis below 70 K is yielded. A hysteresis as high as similar to 80 kOe is obtained in rho(xy)-H at 15 K. However, the Hall plateau disappears and only anomalous Hall effect (AHE) persists when further decreasing the temperature to 5 K. The present study provides a picture of diverse magneto-transport properties correlated to the variable spin structures driven by magnetic phase transitions.
