In this study, a battery test platform is built to study and analyze the battery model. A fractional-order model (FOM) of battery is developed by combining the second-order equivalent circuit model with fractional calculus theory. By combining the multi-innovation with the unscented Kalman filter algorithm based on FOM, a fractional-order multi innovation unscented Kalman filter algorithm is proposed. Under different temperatures and dynamic conditions, the tracking of terminal voltage and the estimation results of SOC using the proposed algorithm are compared and analyzed. In order to verify the accuracy and robustness of the proposed algorithm, the tracking effect of the terminal voltage and the estimation results of SOC under different initial SOC values are investigated. The experimental results indicate that the FOM is more accurate than the integer-order model in reflecting the battery characteristics. Under different temperatures, dynamic conditions, and initial SOC values, the values of mean absolute error (MAE) and root mean squared error (RMSE) of the proposed algorithm are the lowest, which verifies the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm. The maximum values of MAE and RMSE of SOC estimation results of the proposed algorithm are 1.04 % and 0.9122 %, respectively, indicating that the proposed algorithm has high accuracy and good robustness.

Microscale compressed air energy storage is not dependent on geographical environment, exhibits a flexible layout, and is especially suitable for distributed energy systems. Herein, a test bench of microscale compressed air energy storage is established. The effects of key parameters, such as regulated pressure, current, voltage, and rotating speed, on the output performance of a pneumatic motor (PM) and generator are examined. The power performance, economic performance, and energy efficiency of the PM in forward and reverse rotations are also investigated. The differences in the output performances of the PM and generator under the forward and reverse rotations of the PM are analyzed. Experimental results show that the PM's power performance, economy, and efficiency in forward rotation are greater than those in reverse rotation. The power output of the generator with the PM in forward rotation is greater than that in reverse rotation. The maximum values of the power output and efficiency and the minimum compressed air consumption rate of the PM are 650 W, 6.92%, and 0.165 g J(-1), respectively. The maximum efficiency of the generator is 94.35%.

This study simulates the polarization effect during the process of battery charging and discharging, and investigates the characteristics of the process. A fractional-order model (FOM) is established and the parameters of the FOM are identified with the adaptive genetic algorithm. As Kalman filter estimation causes error accumulation over time, using the fractional-order multi-innovation unscented Kalman filter (FOMIUKF) is a better choice for state of charge (SOC) estimation. A comparative study shows that the FOMIUKF has higher accuracy. A multiple timescales-based joint estimation algorithm of SOC and state of health is established to improve SOC estimation precision and reduce the amount of computation. The FOMIUKF algorithm is used for SOC estimation, while the UKF algorithm is used for SOH estimation. The joint estimation algorithm is then compared and analyzed alongside other Kalman filter algorithms under different dynamic operating conditions. Experimental results show that the joint estimation algorithm possesses high estimation accuracy with a mean absolute error of under 1% and a root mean square error of 1.35%.

Extended range electric vehicles (EREVs) are an effective solution to solve the lack of driving range of pure electric vehicles. Reducing the fuel consumption of EREVs and prolonging the service lifetime of battery play a positive role in solving environmental pollution and energy crisis. In this paper, hybrid energy storage system (HESS) is introduced into EREVs, and two energy management strategies based on HESS are proposed to reduce fuel consumption and prolonging the service life of battery. This paper proposes two energy management strategies for EREVs based on a HESS to reduce fuel consumption and the amount of energy flowing through the battery. HESS adopts the rule based energy management strategy, whereas Auxiliary power unit (APU) adopts the equivalent fuel consumption minimization strategy (ECMS) or the rule-based energy management strategy as its first and second hierarchical energy management strategies respectively, both of which are embedded into the charge depleting/charge sustaining (CD/CS) control strategy. A simulation model for an EREV is built in AVL Cruise to verify the effectiveness of these strategies. The battery charge and discharge C-rate and the energy consumption of EREVs without HESS under the ECMS and rule-based energy management strategy are then compared. Results show that under the first hierarchical energy management strategy, the average discharge C-rate and cumulative ampere hours of the battery are the lowest, thereby reducing its operating load and extending its service lifetime. Meanwhile, for those EREVs without HESS, using the rule-based energy management strategy can reduce fuel consumption by 11.33%, whereas using ECMS increases fuel consumption by no more than 1.61%. Therefore, the first hierarchical energy management strategy proposed in this study can effectively extend the service lifetime of the battery and reduce the fuel economy of EREVs. Accurate state of charge (SOC) and state of health (SOH) estimation is very important to ensure safe and efficient operation of electric vehicle battery system. In this study, an improved co-estimation method of SOC and SOH based on a fractional model is proposed. A fractional second-order model is established. The identification of model parameters (including the order of fractional elements) is realized by adaptive genetic algorithm and the SOC is estimated using multi-innovations unscented Kalman filter (MIUKF). At the same time, the unscented Kalman filter (UKF) is used to predict SOH to update the actual capacity of the SOC estimator. The effectiveness of the proposed co-estimation method is validated by experiment data under different test cycles and battery aging degrees. The results show that the root mean square error of SOC at 25 degrees C is less than 0.38% under different test cycles, and the root mean square error of SOH is less than 0.002%. Compared with UKF, fractional-order unscented Kalman filter and fractional-order MIUKF, the SOC estimation error of the proposed method is the lowest. Under different aging degree, the root mean square error of SOC and SOH at 25 degrees C is lower than 1.21% and 0.007%, respectively. It indicates that the proposed method has good adaptability and high accuracy.

Frequent fluctuations of CNG engine operating conditions make the waste heat source have uncertain, nonlinear, and strong coupling characteristics. These characteristics are not conducive to the efficient recovery of the DORC system. The systematic evaluation of the CNG engine waste heat source and the comprehensive performance of the DORC system is conducive to the efficient use of waste heat. Based on the theory of internal combustion (IC) engine thermal balance, this paper analyzes the dynamic characteristics of compressed natural gas (CNG) engine waste heat energy under full operating conditions. Then, based on the operating characteristics of the dual loop organic Rankine cycle (DORC) system, thermodynamic models, heat transfer models, and economic models are constructed. The dynamic response characteristics analysis and energy, exergy, and economic (3E) evaluation of the DORC system under full operating conditions are carried out. The results show that the maximum values of net power output, heat exchange area, and the minimum values of EPC (electricity production cost) and PBT (payback time) are all obtained under rated condition, which are 174.03 kW, 25.86 kW, 37.54 kW, 24.76 m(2), 0.15 $/kW & BULL;h and 3.46 years. Therefore, the rated condition is a relatively ideal design operating point for the DORC system. The research in this paper not only provides a reliable reference for the comprehensive analysis and evaluation of the performance of the DORC system, but also provides useful guidance for the selection of appropriate DORC system design operating points.

The high-temperature oxidation resistance is a critical evaluation index for the practical applications of Nd-Fe-B sintered magnets. In this paper, the high temperature (> 523 K) oxidation behavior of the recycled Nd-Fe-B sintered magnets was investigated and compared with the original magnets. The results show that both magnets exhibit similar high-temperature oxidation characteristics. The recycled magnets oxidized after 300 h at 673 K possesses remanence (B-r) of 1.189 T, coercivity (H-ci) of 1688 kA/m, and maximum energy product [(BH)(max)] of 268 kJ/m(3). Compared with the recycled magnet before oxidizing, the oxidized recycled magnets retain 96.0% of B-r, 85.2% of H-ci, and 92.2% of (BH)(max), respectively. The recycled magnets negatively influence the high-temperature oxidation resistance compared with the original magnets, demonstrating the recycled magnets' applicability. Compressed air energy storage has garnered much attention due to its advantages of long lifespan, low cost and little environmental pollution, and pneumatic motor is equally so due to its advantages of low price, easy operation, and wide power range. In this paper, a small power generation energy storage test device based on pneumatic motor and compressed air is built. The effects of regulator valve pressure and electronic load current on temperature difference, pressure difference, expansion ratio, rotating speed, torque, power output of pneumatic motor, and efficiency of generator are studied by experiments. The experimental results show that the temperature difference, pressure difference and expansion ratio of pneumatic motor increase with the increase of regulator valve pressure and electronic load current. The power output of the pneumatic motor and the efficiency of generator increase at first and then decrease with the increase of the electronic load current, while the power of pneumatic motor and the efficiency of generator increase with the increase of regulator valve pressure. The maximum power output of the pneumatic motor is about 290.3 W, and the maximum efficiency of the generator is about 75.1%. © 2021 Elsevier Ltd

Compressed air vehicle is characterized by low cost, easy operation, and zero pollution. In this study, a compressed air vehicle test table is built based on pneumatic motor (PM). Influences of key parameters, such as regulator valve pressure, rotation speed, and torque on exhaust pressure, intake pressure, expansion ratio, volume flow rate, power output and compressed air consumption rate of PM are discussed. Universal characteristics curve is an important reference to analyze the performance of PM. Hence, universal characteristics of PM is analyzed. Finally, relative error, error bar and sensitivity analysis of the experimental are discussed. Experimental results show that the high-power region of PM falls around regions with great volume flow rate, relatively high torque, and moderate rotation speed. For PM, the most economic region is expected to fall in the center of universal characteristics. Moderate torque and rotation speed are the relatively economic operation regions of PM. When the regulator valve pressure is 9 bar, the torque is 11 N.m, and the rotation speed is 880 r/min, the power output of PM reaches 1014.5 W.

The organic Rankine cycle (ORC) is a promising technology for medium-and-low temperature heat utilization. However, the mechanism of how system parameters affect output have been investigated very little in the experimental aspect. Experimental investigation on the impact of each system parameter on system performance requires decoupling these system parameters. In this work, a series of experiments are conducted on a 10 kW scale ORC experiment setup. Statistical analysis is performed to identify a key parameter subset based on an experimental database. 6 system parameters, including temperature (Te) and pressure (pe) at the evaporator outlet, temperature (Tc) and pressure (pc) at the condenser inlet, expander shaft efficiency (eta SSE), and working fluid pump efficiency (eta P) are obtained. Combined with the ORC net power output and thermal efficiency, an experimental database of system operation conditions is constructed. Subsequently, the principal component analysis (PCA) of ORC is conducted based on the experimental database. Prediction models are developed using multi-linear regression (MLR), back propagation artificial neural network (BP-ANN), and support vector regression (SVR). Finally, accounting for the prediction performance of models and system parameter intercorrelation behavior, the key parameter subset is determined with the exhaustive feature selection method. The results imply that the key parameter subset is (pe, eta P, pc, eta SSE). Further removing or including more system parameters would reduce the accuracy of prediction models. In addition, the MLR models are slightly less accurate than the more sophisticated BP-ANN and SVR models.
