Reconstruction-induced NiCu-based catalysts towards paired electrochemical refining SCIE

A paired electrochemical refinery toward the cathodic nitrate reduction reaction (NO3RR) and anodic glycerol oxidation reaction (GOR) driven by renewable electricity could generate high value-added ammonia and formic acid simultaneously. However, both cathode and anode electrocatalysts often suffer from low efficiency and unclear reconstruction. Herein, we prepare a non-noble NiCu-OH nanocomposite precatalyst composed of crystalline Cu-2(OH)(3)(NO3) and amorphous Ni(OH)(2), which can be reconstructed into high-activity and stable cathodic NO3RR and anodic GOR electrocatalysts under operating conditions. Various in situ and ex situ experiments demonstrate that NiCu-OH could convert into active Cu nanoparticles coupled with amorphous Ni(OH)(2) under cathodic NO3RR conditions. Meanwhile, under anodic GOR conditions, NiCu-OH-derived bimetal oxide (NiCuO) changes into active NiOOH species composited with Cu vacancy-rich CuO. Furthermore, an actual paired electrochemical refinery with the reconstructed NiCu-based catalysts toward the NO3RR and GOR shows a low potential of 1.37 V at a current density of 100 mA cm(-2) to continuously produce ammonium and formate. This study provides a new paradigm for the design of an electrochemical refinery with reconstructed non-noble electrocatalysts toward chemical upgradation.

Studying ultrafast dynamics provides us with a way to modify materials from the timescale of particle interaction, and the related research on antiferromagnetic semiconductors is still inadequate. Based on the electron density reconstruction, we achieve the visualization of magnetic interactions of bulk antiferromagnetic MnPS3 in the ground state, reveal the role of two atomic site occupations of S atoms in different magnetic phase transitions, and provide the theoretical and experimental support for modifying magnetic properties by selectively replacing the S atom. The ultrafast carrier dynamics can provide information from the excited state to the ground state. Based on time-resolved transmittance measurements, ultrafast carrier dynamics of MnPS3 are reported. The phonon-assisted gap transition driven by the electronic structure is characterized. The coupling relationship among electrons, spin, and phonons is established. Furthermore, the spin orientations within different phases are confirmed.

透射电镜作为当代最常用的材料表征手段之一,有着高的分辨率,可以较清晰地在原子尺度表征材料的微观结构与化学成分,在许多学科中发挥着关键作用.新型电池作为高效、清洁的储存装置,给现代生活带来了许多便利,拥有极大的科研与商用价值.而作为电池重要部件的正极材料,是否能高效、安全地工作,时刻影响着新型电池的商业化前景.本文综述了透射电子显微学在新型电池正极材料失效机制研究中的贡献,总结了正极材料失效的普遍原因.利用透射电子显微学表征电池正极,有助于优化传统正极材料,对设计更加先进、稳定的新型正极材料提供理论依据.

Y At present, the studies on magnetocaloric properties are mainly based on polycrystalline materials, which is not enough to reveal and understand the origin of their magnetocaloric effect. In addition, finding new room temperature magnetocaloric materials is crucial to the development and application for room temperature magnetic refrigeration. Here, we report the magnetic transitions, magnetic anisotropy, and magnetocaloric properties of single-crystal Mn5Ge3 and Mn5Ge3/Mn3.5Fe1.5Ge3 heterostructures with six (100) surfaces and the [001] growth direction prepared using the Sn flux method. Mn5Ge3 (Mn3.5Fe1.5Ge3) undergoes a sharp paramagnetic-collinear ferromagnetic transition at 299 (332) K and weak collinear-noncollinear ferromagnetic transition at 65 (35) K. Owing to the distinct spin arrangements and magnetic moments of Mn5Ge3 and Mn3.5Fe1.5Ge3, the magnetic anisotropy of the single crystal is stronger than that of the heterostructure below 299 K. Moreover, a large anisotropic magnetocaloric effect, wide operating temperature range, and large refrigeration capacity near room temperature are obtained in these two materials, especially the magnetocaloric effect of the heterostructure presents a tablelike shape due to the adjacent paramagnetic-collinear ferromagnetic transitions of Mn5Ge3 and Mn3.5Fe1.5Ge3. Under 0-3 T, the maximum magnetic entropy change, operating temperature range, and refrigeration capacity of the single crystal (heterostructure) are 5.19 (2.96) J kg(-1) K-1, 43 (57) K, and 223 (169) J kg(-1) when H//c, respectively. These features make them candidates for room temperature magnetic refrigeration.

Ternary two-dimentional (2D) materials exhibit diverse physical properties depending on their composition, structure, and thickness. Through forming heterostructures with other binary materials that show similar structure, there can be numerous potential applications of these ternary 2D materials. In this work, we reported the structure of few-layer CrPS4 by X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscope, and electron-density distribution calculation. We also demonstrated a new application of the CrPS4/MoS2 heterobilayer: visible-infrared photodetectors with type-II staggered band alignment at room temperature. The response of the heterostructure to infrared light results from a strong interlayer coupling that reduces the energy interval in the junction area. Since the intrinsic bandgap of individual components determines wavelengths, the decrease in energy interval allows better detection of light that has a longer wavelength. We used photoluminescence (PL) spectroscopy, Kelvin probe force microscopy (KPFM) under illumination, and electrical transport measurements to verify the photoinduced charge separation between the CrPS4/MoS2 heterostructures. At forward bias, the device functioned as a highly sensitive photodetector, as the wavelength-dependent photocurrent measurement achieved the observation of optical excitation from 532 to 1,450 nm wavelength. Moreover, the photocurrent caused by interlayer exciton reached around 1.2 nA at 1,095 nm wavelength. Our demonstration of the strong interlayer coupling in the CrPS4/MoS2 heterostructure may further the understanding of the essential physics behind binary-ternary transition metal chalcogenides heterostructure and pave a way for their potential applications in visible-infrared devices.

A Glass-Ceramic with Accelerated Surface Reconstruction toward the Efficient Oxygen Evolution Reaction. PubMed

The effective non-precious metal catalysts toward the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) are highly desirable for electrochemical water splitting. Herein, we prepare a novel glass-ceramic (Ni1.5 Sn@triMPO4 ) by embedding crystalline Ni1.5 Sn nanoparticles into amorphous trimetallic phosphate (triMPO4 ) matrix. This unique crystalline-amorphous nanostructure synergistically accelerates the surface reconstruction to active Ni(Fe)OOH, due to the low vacancy formation energy of Sn in glass-ceramic and high adsorption energy of PO43- at the VO sites. Compared to the control samples, this dual-phase glass-ceramic exhibits a remarkably lowered overpotential and boosted OER kinetics after surface reconstruction, rivaling most of state-of-the-art electrocatalysts. The residual PO43- and intrinsic VO sites induce redistribution of electron states, thus optimizing the adsorption of OH* and OOH* intermediates on metal oxyhydroxides and promoting the OER activity.

One-dimensional materials have been intensively studied because of their diverse properties, which are revealed when exfoliated from their bulk precursor. Liquid exfoliation is not only possibly the most suitable method for large-scale applications but also affords an opportunity to develop new deposition techniques. Fibrous phosphorus is a relatively new, one-dimensional material with high carrier mobility and a fast response velocity for future application in nanodevices. Because controllable liquid exfoliation processing of fibrous phosphorus (FP) remains challenging, we considered two factors: the exfoliated result and the removable solvents. We proposed a method for determining suitable solvents for efficient exfoliation and controllable size of fibrous phosphorus using Hansen solubility parameters. By controlling the water/acetone mixture ratios, the exfoliation effect could be controlled. Our work showed that 40% of the FP nanofibers were less than 10 nm in thickness and 70% of them were less than 20 nm. Furthermore, fibrous phosphorus produced a red fluorescence in bioimaging.

La0.6Ce0.3Pr0.1B6-ZrB2, a directionally solidified eutectic (DSE), is a material with a high-performance thermionic emission with great application prospects. The influence of the growth rates of this DSE on the microstructure, growth direction, two phases orientation relationship, mechanical properties, and thermionic emission properties was investigated. The experimental results show that the microstructure and growth direction of the two phases varied with the growth rate of the eutectic: the faster the growth rate, the lower the uniformity of the ZrB2 phase became, and the growth directions of the La0.6Ce0.3Pr0.1B6 matrix and the ZrB2 phase were also altered accordingly. In the La0.6Ce0.3Pr0.1B6-ZrB2 DSE with a growth rate of 100 mm/h, the two phases have a unique growth direction and a crystallographic orientation relationship. The fracture toughness of the La0.6Ce0.3Pr0.1B6-ZrB2 DSE is at least 50% higher than that of the single crystal La0.6Ce0.3Pr0.1B6, and the fracture toughness of the DSEs formed at different growth rates also differed.

本文合成了一种新型结构的微/纳米线.利用光学显微镜、扫描电子显微镜(SEM)、透射电子显微镜(TEM)和能量色散X射线谱(EDS)对所合成微/纳米线的形态、组成和微观结构进行研究.结果显示β-Sn 微/纳米线作为"核",超薄非晶态MnOX 纳米片作为"壳"层,完全把β-Sn 包裹住,形成Sn@MnOX 微/纳米线异质结构.
