The sulfur-based autotrophic denitrification reactor was set up and its denitrification performance was evaluated in this study. The denitrification activity of the sludge was determined by batch tests, and the microbial community structure was revealed by scanning electron microscopy(SEM) and high-throughput sequencing. The influent NO3--N concentration of the reactor operated with sequencing batch mode was 80mg/L. The autotrophic denitrification performance increased with the hydraulic retention time (HRT) gradually shortened from 12h to 6h, the total inorganic nitrogen(TIN) removal efficiency and the average TIN removal loading rate of the reactor during the stable period were 99.1% and 0.158kg N/(m³•d), respectively. The maximum NO2--N concentration during the SBR cycle was 13.3mg/L, the pH value decreased from 7.38 to 6.94 during the reduction process from NO3--N to NO2--N, and the pH value remained stable during the process of reducing NO2--N to N2. The batch test results showed that the NO3--N removal rate of sulfur autotrophic denitrifying bacteria and heterotrophic denitrifying bacteria were 0.515and 0.196kg N/(kg VSSd), respectively, and the NO2--N removal rate of sulfur autotrophic denitrifying bacteria was 0.117kg N/(kg VSSd), the sludge had both autotrophic denitrification activity and heterotrophic denitrification activity. SEM images showed that both rod-shaped bacteria and spherical bacteria were observed in the sludge. The dominant sulfur autotrophic denitrifying bacteria in the sludge were Thiobacillus, Sulfurimonas and Thermomonas, with relative abundance of 14.5%, 7.6% and 6.0%, respectively. © 2020, Editorial Board of China Environmental Science. Reliability analysis and design optimization of structures have been gaining a significant amount of attention in recent decades. Most of the current studies are based on linear structural analysis. The study on reliability analysis and design optimization for nonlinear structures has not been well explored. This paper presents studies on reliability analysis and design optimization for nonlinear structures, by using the Kriging based method and First-order reliability method (FORM). Numerical studies on nonlinear reinforced concrete structures and steel frame structures are carried out to verify the accuracy and efficiency of the proposed methods. The results demonstrate that the FORM and Kriging based methods have the same accuracy as those from Monte Carlo Simulation (MCS) method. Reliability-based design optimization (RBDO) is conducted for nonlinear structures, in which the dimensions of structures can be optimized and the target occurrence probability can be achieved. Compared with FORM based RBDO method, the Kriging based method is more accurate and efficient. The response sensitivity is not required in the Kriging based method, which makes it more versatile.

The metamaterial with negative Poison's ratio is widely used due to its special mechanical and physical properties. Based on the theory of periodic solution and bifurcation of nonlinear dynamics, we mainly focus on the nonlinear vibration behaviors and parameter control of a simply supported concave hexagonal composite sandwich plate with negative Poisson's ratio in auxetic honeycombs subjected to in-plane and transverse excitation. The Melnikov function is improved by introducing the curvilinear coordinate frame and Poincaré map to detect the existence and number of the periodic solutions. The effects of the forcing excitation coefficient on nonlinear dynamics as well as the parameter control conditions are presented. Numerical method is performed to obtain the phase portraits of the number and corresponding positions of multiple periodic orbits. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

The effective inhibition or wash-out of nitrite oxidizing bacteria (NOB) is the key challenge for the application of partial nitritation/anammox (PA/N) process in domestic wastewater treatment. The deteriorated domestic wastewater PN/A system was used to investigate the recovery effect of hydroxylamine (NH2OH) concentration and dosing mode on it. The nitrate (NO3 --N) production ratio of the PN/A system was 0.90, which was due to the overgrowth of NOB. The results showed that when the initial NH2OH concentration was 10mg/L in the sequencing batch reactor (SBR) and NH2OH was added once a day, the ratio of NO3 --Nproducted/NH4 +-Nconsumed was decreased from 0.90 to 0.11 after adding NH2OH for 20d. It indicated that NH2OH (10mg/L) addition could restore PN/A process in-situ. The ratio of NO3 --Nproducted/NH4 +-Nconsumed increased to 0.15 again after stopping NH2OH addition for 59d. When continued to add NH2OH into reactor for 5d, the PN/A process operated well. Therefore, the intermittent addition of NH2OH strategy could maintain the stable performance of the PN/A process. The real-time quantitative PCR results showed that the NOB abundance was decreased continuously from (4.52±0.44)×1010copies/g VSS (Day 6) to (2.30±0.80)×109copies/g VSS (Day 157) after NH2OH (10mg/L) addition. A denitrifying strain ZY04 with high nitrite-accumulating rate was isolated and purified from activated sludge in lab-scale A2/O reactor. The strain was characterized and identified as Acinetobacter johnsonii by 16S rDNA phylogenetic analysis. The Logistic model were fitted well to the experimental growth curve of strain ZY04 with the growth equation constants of a=0.6588, b=24.08, k=0.2413. To investigate the partial denitrification performance of strain ZY04, the batch experiments were conducted by fixing the initial concentration at 100mg/L and supplying with different quantities of sodium acetate to control the carbon-nitrogen ratio (TOC/TN) at 3.5, 4.5, 5.5, 6.5. The result showed that ZY04 exhibited the high removal rate of nitrate over 95% under different TOC/TN conditions. The nitrite accumulation rate reached over 70% within 17 hours under the TOC/TN at 3.5 and 4.5, while the rate was over 85% within 11hours under the condition with the TOC/TN at 5.5 and 6.5. the highest nitrite accumulation rate was up to 91% when the TOC/TN was set as 5.5. The results of inhibitory kinetics analysis revealed that three biokinetic models (Aiba, Edwards and Andrews) could well simulate the growth pattern of strain ZY04inhibited by single substrate (nitrate or sodium acetate). In the double-substrate inhibitory model, six models of nine combinations successfully fitted the growth characteristic of strain affected by double substrate of nitrate and sodium acetate. The relevant semi-saturation parameters and substrate inhibition parameters were obtained, and the correlation coefficient (R2) could reach 98%. © 2019, Editorial Board of China Environmental Science. In order to investigate the effect of extracellular polymers (EPS) on the activity of anaerobic ammonium oxidation (ANAMMOX) granular sludge, a certain concentration (30mg/L) of integral extracellular polymers (IN-EPS), loosely bound extracellular polymers (LB-EPS) and tightly bound extracellular polymers (TB-EPS) were added to ANAMMOX granular sludge, respectively. The results indicated that all of the aforementioned EPS could improve the activity of ANAMMOX granular sludge. With regard to the test group including IN-EPS, LB-EPS or TB-EPS, the ammonia nitrogen removal rate of ANAMMOX granular sludge had an increase of 6.68%, 10.5% and 19.29% respectively, while the growth rate of ANAMMOX bacteria increased by 18.25%, 21% and 16.3% respectively. The compositions of three EPSs were basically identical, which is mainly consisted of aromatic proteins and soluble microbial products through three-dimensional fluorescence spectroscopy. And three kinds of acylated homoserine lactones (AHLs) signal molecules in EPSs: C4-HSL, C6-HSL and C10-HSL were found. Additionally, we discovered that C4-HSL and C6-HSL could improve the activity and growth rate of ANAMMOX particles through adding the above EPSs to ANAMMOX granular sludge. In this paper, we mainly locus on the hypernormal form for a class of four-dimensional nilpotent vector fields, and the results are applied to simplify the practical engineering models in the high-dimensional nonlinear dynamics. We improve and develop the further reduction theory of the normal form proposed by Sanders, Baider and KOW, and based on the method of linear grading function, multiple Lie bracket and the new notations for block matrices, we obtain the three order and the live order hypernormal form, respectively, and then the results are applied to simplify the circular truss antenna models. The introduction of the new notations for block matrices gives a new method for dealing with the calculation of big size block matrices, which brings conveniences for the later research. © Journal of Dynamics and Control. Periodic solutions and numerical simulations for a composite laminated circular cylindrical shell under the parametric excitation of temperature are investigated in this paper. By introducing some transformations and defining a Poincaré displacement map, some results, including the existence condition for periodic solutions, least upper bound of the number of periodic solutions and the parameter control conditions, are obtained. To demonstrate the applicability and validity of our theoretical results, the phase portraits of the periodic solutions with different values of the detuning parameter are presented by numerical simulations. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.
