本发明提供了一种高效产生H2O2的硼掺杂生物质炭阴极及其制备方法和应用,属于水处理电化学高级氧化技术领域。本发明将硼酸溶液与生物质粉末混合后依次进行加热、第一冷却、过滤、烘干、煅烧、第二冷却、洗涤和干燥后获硼掺杂生物质炭粉末;将炭黑、硼掺杂生物质炭粉末、聚四氟乙烯分散液和无水乙醇混合并超声分散之后加热搅拌得到硼掺杂生物质炭浆料;将硼掺杂生物质炭浆料粘结于泡沫镍上通过高温固化得到硼掺杂生物质炭阴极。本发明利用非金属元素硼掺杂时,以缺电子硼取代碳形成B‑C键,在硼原子附近产生正电荷,有利于吸附H2O2,且无铁泥的产生。与传统电芬顿相比,无需外源加入H2O2和Fe2+,可在原位同时产生活化H2O2,产生羟基自由基降解污染物。

本发明公开了一种八硫化七铁负载生物炭催化剂的制备方法及应用,属于污水处理技术领域。该催化剂的制备方法为:将生物炭原料、六水合氯化铁、硫脲在乙二醇中完全溶解,通过溶剂热法得到八硫化七铁负载生物质前驱体,经热解法后得到八硫化七铁负载生物炭催化剂,将该催化剂和过一硫酸盐加入含有抗生素的水体中,通过以单线态氧为主的非自由基途径实现水体中抗生素的去除,本发明的催化剂制备方法简单,对抗生素去除效率高,pH、温度适用范围广泛,具有较大的比表面积,易回收利用,适合工业化生产。

Metal sulfides have been found to be effective in removing organic pollutants from water in environmental catalysis. In this study, a porous graphitic biochar wrapped Co9S8 core-shell composite (Co9S8@N-O-BC) was designed for efficient activation of peroxymonosulfate (PMS) and degradation of sulfamethoxazole in an aqueous environment. Based on complementary characterizations and reactive oxygen species (ROS) quenching experiments, we proposed that boosted Co(ii) regeneration by various existing S species along with formed N and O active sites in Co9S8@N-O-BC facilitated the cleavage of the O-O bond of PMS, thus resulting in a high-efficiency non-radical pathway. Consequently, Co9S8@N-O-BC/PMS achieved an outstanding degradation of sulfamethoxazole (100%) within 4 min in a wide pH range (3-11) and its turnover frequency (TOF) value was 11.96 min(-1), up to 117 times higher than other reported catalysts as far as we know. The superior stability and wide applicability in sulfamethoxazole degradation with a series of inorganic ions, especially the production of very few harmless intermediates and the exceptional mineralization efficiency, also further demonstrated that the obtained catalyst possessed excellent potential for practical wastewater treatment.

COVID-19 threatens the world. Social distancing is a significant factor in determining the spread of this disease, and social distancing is strongly affected by the local travel behaviour of people in large cities. In this study, we analysed the changes in the local travel behaviour of various population groups in Hong Kong, between 1 January and 31 March 2020, by using second-by-second smartcard data obtained from the Mass Transit Railway Corporation (MTRC) system. Due to the pandemic, local travel volume decreased by 43%, 49% and 59% during weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays, respectively. The local travel volumes of adults, children, students and senior citizens decreased by 42%, 86%, 73% and 48%, respectively. The local travel behaviour changes for adults and seniors between non-pandemic and pandemic times were greater than those between weekdays and weekends. The opposite was true for children and students. During the pandemic, the daily commute flow decreased by 42%. Local trips to shopping areas, amusement areas and borders decreased by 42%, 81% and 99%, respectively. The effective reproduction number (R t ) of COVID-19 had the strongest association with daily population use of the MTR 7-8 days earlier.

By the end of February 2021, COVID-19 had spread to over 230 countries, with more than 100 million confirmed cases and 2.5 million deaths. To control infection spread with the least disruption to economic and societal activities, it is crucial to implement the various interventions effectively. In this study, we developed an agentbased SEIR model, using real demographic and geographic data from Hong Kong, to analyse the efficiency of various intervention strategies in preventing infection by the SARS-CoV-2 virus. Close contact route including short-range airborne is considered as the main transmission routes for COVID-19 spread. Contact tracing is not that useful if all other interventions have been fully deployed. The number of infected individuals could be halved if people reduced their close contact rate by 25%. For reducing transmission, students should be prioritized for vaccination rather than retired older people and preschool aged children. Home isolation, and taking the nucleic acid test (NAT) as soon as possible after symptom onset, are much more effective interventions than wearing masks in public places. Temperature screening in public places only disrupted the infection spread by a small amount when other interventions have been fully implemented. Our results may be useful for other highly populated cities, when choosing their intervention strategies to prevent outbreaks of COVID-19 and similar diseases.

In the process of water treatment, excessive nitrogen and phosphorus pollutants are of great concern. Therefore, we prepared nanoscale zerovalent iron loaded on sediment-based biochar (nZVI-SBC) to conduct nitrate and phosphate removal at the same time. The characterization demonstrated that nZVI-SBC was successfully synthesized, which had obvious advantages for larger specific surface area and better dispersion compared with pure nZVI. The batch experiments indicated that the best loading ratio of nZVI to SBC and optimum dosage for nitrate and phosphate were 1:1and 2 g L-1, respectively. Their removal by nZVI-SBC was an acid-driven process. Anoxic environment was more conducive to the reduction of nitrate while the phosphate removal was fond of oxygen environment. A total of 77.78% of nitrate and 99.21% of phosphate have been successfully removed, mainly depending on reduction and complexation mechanism, respectively. Moreover, nZVI-SBC had higher N2 selectivity and produced less ammonium than nZVI. The interaction between nitrate and phosphate was studied to manifest that they had different degrees of inhibition during the removal of the other. Our research indicated that nZVI-SBC has great potential for remediation of nitrogen and phosphorus polluted water.

Recently, the use of biochar for wastewater treatment has become a central focus in environmental remediation studies. In this research, a simple and economical one-pot hydrothermal strategy was developed for the synthesis of iron-modified sludge-derived hydrothermal biochar (ISHB). The obtained optimum ISHB possesses abundant hydroxy, carboxyl and aromatic ring surface functional groups as well as relative high surface area and small particle size which contribute to the adsorption of the enhanced contaminants. The structure-activity relationship and the adsorption behavior between the ISHB and doxycycline (DOX) were explored. The loaded iron improved the adsorption capacity of ISHB from 51.65 to 78.93 mg g(-1) at 20 degrees C with an initial DOX concentration of 60 mg L-1. As Cu(II) exists in the DOX solution, the adsorption of DOX is inhibited to 50.06 mg g(-1) due to the site competition between DOX and Cu(II). Nevertheless, the adsorption of Cu(II) is promoted, which can be explained by the complexation between DOX and Cu(II).

Background: Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is primarily a respiratory disease that has become a global pandemic. Close contact plays an important role in infection spread, while fomite may also be a possible transmission route. Research during the COVID-19 pandemic has identified long-range airborne transmission as one of the important transmission routes although lack solid evidence. Methods: We examined video data related to a restaurant associated COVID-19 outbreak in Guangzhou. We observed more than 40,000 surface touches and 13,00 0 episodes of close contacts in the restaurant during the entire lunch duration. These data allowed us to analyse infection risk via both the fomite and close contact routes. Results: There is no significant correlation between the infection risk via both fomite and close contact routes among those who were not family members of the index case. We can thus rule out virus transmission via fomite contact and interpersonal close contact routes in the Guangzhou restaurant outbreak. The absence of a fomite route agrees with the COVID-19 literature. Conclusions: These results provide indirect evidence for the long-range airborne route dominating SARSCoV-2 transmission in the restaurant. We note that the restaurant was poorly ventilated, allowing for increasing airborne SARS-CoV-2 concentration. (C) 2021 The British Infection Association. Published by Elsevier Ltd. Immobilized microorganism technology has attracted increasing attention for high concentration of microbes, low cell loss and high resistance to impact of environment. The microbial reduction of nitrate in the presence of sediment-based biochar (SBC) and nanoscale zero-valent iron (nZVI) was investigated in four different free systems. NZVI-SBC/bacteria system realized the best nitrate removal of 97.61% within 3 days through the synergistic effect of SBC and nZVI on denitrifying bacteria. Accumulation of nitrite and ammonium in nZVI-SBC/ bacteria system also decreased. High-throughput sequencing results showed that the proportion of denitrifying bacteria in microbial community structure increased after adding nZVI-SBC. The performance of nitrate removal was then studied through PVA/SA-immobilization. Immobilized active pellets performed better nitrate removal (98.89%) and stronger tolerance under different conditions than the free bacterial cells. Overall, this study provided a promising approach by utilizing SBC and nZVI for the bio-remediation of nitrate-contaminated water in practical application.

Fomites can transmit some infectious diseases. Human touch behaviors are known to affect virus transmission in buildings. Using video cameras in a graduate student office, we collected more than 98,000 touch actions from 14 h of high-resolution video data of surfaces touched by fingers, palms, and backs of hands. Based on the collected data, we simulated infection spread via the fomite route. 90% of touches to mucous membranes are by fingers (70% by fingers of the nondominant hand; 20% by fingers of the dominant hand). 3% of the virus released into the atmosphere by those infected was transmitted to other students' hands, personal-use surfaces, and public surfaces. Public surfaces are responsible for 53% of virus transmission due to surface touch to susceptible students. 65% of the virus transmitted to the mucous membranes, is by nondominant hands. 93% of virus intake via mucous membranes of the susceptible was from fingers. Door handles and mobile phones transferred the most viral loads to hands of the susceptible. Total virus exposure due to touching has no significant relationship with the duration of being indoors, but human behavior does. Behavior-related intervention strategies are much more efficient than other strategies such as public surface disinfection. If we never touch other's personal surfaces, we would reduce our exposure to the virus by 80%.
